Who’s Ruddy – Alabama Hotshots

The ruddy duck was inspiration to the Alabama Hotshots baseball all the way back to its start.

Most of you probably don't even know what a ruddy duck is...or how it relates to baseball. LET'S FIX THAT!

The duck

Known and easily spotted by its bright blue bills, the ruddy duck is a species that originates from Spain.

Some common words used to describe ruddy ducks include: Fast, Aggressive, Thick Necked, Survivors, Unique, Uncommon, and a Rare Breed.

the why

Ducks, in general, are known for being cool, calm, and collected on the surface. Meanwhile, below the surface where no one can see, they put out a tremendous amount of effort and energy to survive and thrive.

The ruddy duck's beautiful red hues and columbia blue beak are the inspiration behind our shades of red and blue.

Is this a little extra for a youth baseball program?
Absolutely. But that's not a bad thing in our book. We want the young men within our program to know that the time, effort, and energy they put into getting better on and off the field is reciprocated with our actions, talents, and abilities.

Ruddy the Hotshot is a fun and playful way for us to tell this story, not only to our little ballers, but to the community.

get used to me

So yeah, I'm here to stay. Get used to me. I won't be hard to find. Maybe, just maybe, we'll go all out and get a full-blown mascot costume.
